As part of my stay on Magnetic Island we followed the advice of a good mate working for TravelBugs and he hooked us up with a stay in a Base Hostel – so here’s my review.

HOSTEL REVIEW – Dingos Resort, Rainbow Beach
29 09 2010Either side of my Fraser Island trip I stayed a night in Rainbow Beach at Dingo Beach Resort. Although it was part of my 4×4 package I decided it needed a review as you can do Fraser without it and stay elsewhere.

HOSTEL REVIEW: Aquarius Backpackers
15 05 2010Aquarius is up there with the best hostels I’ve stayed in whilst in Oz – and its by far the best I’ve lived in since being located in Byron.

HOSTEL REVIEW: Coffee Palace (by Kerri)
28 04 2010In the first off her guest posts Kerri Finlayson reviews Coffee Palace in Melbourne – it’s brutally honest and a word of warning…

HOSTEL REVIEW: Ozzie Pozzie (by Alice)
21 04 2010[ The following Hostel Review is Guest Posted by fellow blogger Alice – the original article (and her personal blog) can be found at http://alicegoeswalkabout.wordpress.com/ ]
I found Ozzie Pozzie via a google search and since it was reasonably priced I called up and booked myself a few nights.

HOSTEL REVIEW – Glen Villa Resort, Byron Bay
16 04 2010This campsite is where I’m currently living and working in Byron – but don’t let that put you off, and don’t worry there’s as little bias as possible!

HOSTEL REVIEW: Byron Bay Tourist Village
31 03 2010On my return to Byron I ended up not going back to the previously reviewed ‘Beaches’ campsite – simply due to the fact some friends were staying here instead.

HOSTEL REVIEW: Main Beach Holiday Park
11 03 2010Popped up to Surfers to stay with a few mates at this campsite – as there are no campsites actually in surfers this is the nearest one. About a 30min walk into the actual town of Surfers (although there are a couple shopping malls in short driving distance) and only about a 100m walk to the beach!

HOSTEL REVIEW: Pyramid Campsite
10 03 2010I choose this site as it was the nearest and first hit that came up when searching for somewhere to stay during the Quiksilver Pro.

HOSTEL REVIEW: The Beaches Campsite
27 02 2010This campsite on the outskirts of Byron offers both powered and unpowered pitches. I paid $15 per person per night, at least half the price of a hostel.
The site was spacious and with good facilities – BBQ area, lit and covered tables and clean toilets/showers.
On the Ballina road south of Byron it’s a 5 minute drive into central Byron, or about the same to the beach. Taxi wise for nights out its around $12 one way…or a 20min walk….or you could be cheeky on the way in and call the free Buddah Bar bus!
Cleanliness – 3/5
Atmosphere – 3/5
Facilities – 3/5
