Living Free, Byron Bay
It’s exactly a year to the day that I first rolled into what would become my main home in Australia – Byron Bay. So what would be more fitting than a picture from those first few days that encapsulates the free living, hippie ideology that makes this small beachside town such a major stop on the backpacker trail? So here are my original Byron Crew – Frank, Sammy, Ben, Myself, Kerri, Katie and Dan skinny dipping at Broken Head – good times!
I’ve spent a lot of time of the last few weeks starting with the inevitable “this time last year” quote. So I thought I’d recap the highlights of my time in Oz one year on in a new feature called “From The Vault”.
This weekly series will pick out the best times and experiences of down under. So to start it off I’m seeing what I was doing this time last year…at Ningaloo Reef during my West Coast Roadtrip :)
Koala Adventure Island, Whitsundays
The above shot was taken on my time on the Whitsunday Islands last month. Although the weather wasn’t ideal until the last day (typical!) the potential of these islands and the natural beauty that they contained was easily seen. This image was shot from the beach of the Koala Adventure Island (which I have reviewed HERE) before boarding our boat for the day.
As part of my stay on Magnetic Island we followed the advice of a good mate working for TravelBugs and he hooked us up with a stay in a Base Hostel – so here’s my review.
For the last few days I’ve been taking it easy and relaxing under palm trees on the beautiful Magnetic Island.
I’ve enjoyed the couple nights in an air conned bed too – coming up the coast has involved a lot of guerilla camping in hot sweaty tents.
I’m tanned, my hair is salty, my camera packed full of pictures and my body is full of goon – I’ve just got back from a 3 day Whitsundays sailing trip with Koala Adventures!
Last night for me solidified how technology has become an essential part of my life and a benefit to travellers all over the world.
As you know I’m currently powering up the East Coast of Oz towards Cairns, and yesterday we left Rainbow beach on a two day trek for the Airlie Beach.
Either side of my Fraser Island trip I stayed a night in Rainbow Beach at Dingo Beach Resort. Although it was part of my 4×4 package I decided it needed a review as you can do Fraser without it and stay elsewhere.
As my East Coast Tour continues I’ve been pacing it up the coast to my final destination in Cairns. For the last 3 days I’ve been bombing around the worlds largest sand island – Fraser Island – located just off the coast of Rainbow Beach.
The last few days of my East Coast Tour have been spent just outside Noosa in Gagaju Canoe camp, where a 3 day, 2 night canoe tour of the Noosa Everglades was on the cards.
So this post contains a review of my time here, the pros and cons and a mini diary of what I got up too.
